Install the phone app

Scan the QR code shown on your PC with your phone’s camera. From then on, your phone sends its backup straight to your PC, encrypted, over your own network.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Your phone connects directly to your PC over your local Wi‑Fi network, and your data travels only between those two devices, encrypted on the way. There is no cloud service and no account. Gigadyne never sees, receives, or has access to your backups.
The phone app only talks to your PC, plus a once-a-day check for app updates on droidvault.app that sends only the app’s version number. See the privacy policy for details.
Why isn’t the phone app on Google Play?
Google Play only lets an app read your text messages if it can also restore them or is your phone’s texting app. DroidVault is a backup tool, so Google turned it down; that’s a rule about what kind of app may read texts, not a judgment about safety. Texts and calls are the heart of a phone backup, so we offer the DroidVault phone app directly from droidvault.app instead. The app checks droidvault.app for updates and installs a new version once you confirm it; the phone setup guide explains how.
Is it safe to install an app from outside Google Play?
Chrome and Android ask you to confirm before installing any app downloaded from a website, not just DroidVault, and Google Play Protect may warn that it hasn’t seen the app before. The DroidVault app is digitally signed by Gigadyne LLC, and Android will only install an update to it if the update carries the same signature. We publish the app’s fingerprints so you can check your download.

What exactly does DroidVault back up?
Text messages (SMS), MMS messages with their photo and video attachments, your call log, contacts, calendar events, and the photos and videos stored on your phone. Photos and videos are copied at full resolution with no per-file size limit. Android removes photo location tags before sharing photos with a backup app. Photo and video backup requires Android 13 or newer. Everything is saved on your PC, where you can browse it in DroidVault for Windows.
Does it back up RCS chats?
No — and honestly, no backup app can. Android does not make RCS chats accessible to third-party apps, so this is an industry-wide platform limitation, not a DroidVault one. Standard SMS and MMS messages back up completely.
What do I need to run it?
A Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC for DroidVault for Windows, and an Android phone running Android 8.0 or newer for the free phone app. Texts, call log, contacts, and calendar back up on Android 8.0 and newer. Photo and video backup requires Android 13 or newer. Both devices need to be on the same Wi‑Fi network during a backup.
Will scheduled backups use my mobile data?
No. Scheduled backups wait until your phone is on Wi‑Fi and its battery isn’t low. Backups only ever go to your PC on your own network.
Can DroidVault put my texts back on a phone?
Not yet. Restore, which would put your texts and call log back on a phone, isn’t available today; it’s planned as a free update. For now, DroidVault backs up. Your backups stay on your PC, where you can browse and export them anytime.
Will the Text Firewall block spam texts?
No. It won’t block or delete texts. Android only lets your default texting app do that, so matching texts are still delivered and still show up in your messaging app.
What it’s designed to do: silence the alert for texts that match rules you set, and hold a copy in DroidVault’s Held inbox for you to review. It never touches one-time codes or emergency texts, and everything is decided on your phone. The Text Firewall is not available yet; it’s planned as a free update.
What formats can I export to?
CSV, HTML, and TXT. You can export an entire conversation as a readable HTML page, as a CSV file that opens in any spreadsheet, or as plain text.
